ABOUT ME
I am a former high school and college athlete and have always had a passion for working in the sports industry. As a former athlete, I know personally the importance of having guidance and direction in order to succeed. This is why my personal life mission is to help college athletes who want to excel athletically, academically, and in life. I completed my Master’s in Business Administration in Sports Management at Tiffin University (Tiffin, OH) to prepare for a permanent transition from a Director in College Admissions to a Collegiate Athletics Professional. I am passionate about the business management side of collegiate athletics not only because of my love for college sports, but also my love for getting others engaged, involved and contributing to the success of a sports program. My ultimate goal is to work in the management and operations side of collegiate athletics, eventually leading to an Athletics Director position. Once I have established myself in collegiate athletics, I would also love to teach at a university as a part of a Sports Management program and may have the opportunity to do so sooner rather than later. To support my professional dreams to work in the world of college athletics, I worked as intern at Indiana University - Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI) athletics department as an Athletic Advisor Graduate Assistant. In this role I assisted other advisors and student athletes with academic advising issues which included tutoring the athletes in various subjects on multiple occasions, supported special events and projects, met weekly with students to develop their academic plans, reviewed graded coursework and developed strategies for improvement, and worked with the coaches and university support staff in a variety of settings, including when IUPUI moved from the Summit League to the Horizon League, which was a big deal for the university. My work plan for this internship is to shadow the Associate Athletic Director for Academics and spend some time with the general Athletic Director and Associate Athletic Director. This will give me a variety of exposure needed to confirm my interest in being an Athletic Director as well as get some experience under my belt. It will also give me the opportunity to learn the ins and outs of the academics side of an athletic department. |
